What is it?
The Youth Transition Support Initiative assists disengaged young people aged 15 to 19 to obtain a sustainable education, training or employment options.
Personalised assistance is provided with the aim of the young person achieving a sustainable education, training or employment outcome.
Where is the support available?
The Youth Transition Support Initiative is available in twelve Local Learning and Employment Network areas within Victoria. These areas were selected based on rates of Year 12 or equivalent completion and numbers of young people who are not in education, training or full time employment.
A provider in each area employs two transition support workers to provide intensive case management and support.
Eligibility
To be eligible to be supported by the Youth Transition Support Initiative, a young person must be between the ages of 15 to 19, have not completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification and be:
- Not in education or training, and
- Working less than 15 hours per week or
- Unemployed or not in the labour force
Providers are encouraged to focus on the most disadvantaged young people within their locality.
Support provided
The support is provided in three phases:-
- Assessment phase to confirm eligibility, assess barriers and needs and develop strategies to overcome barriers. This phase includes a transition plan.
- Assistance phase including individualised case management and intensive contact. This may include brokerage to secure program and other support.
- Ongoing support until the participant has been in education, training or full time employment continuously for six months.
