  • Young Achiever of the Year

     

    Michaela Pollard is the 2011 Wyndham Young Achiever of the Year

    Michaela is 17 years old and lives in Hoppers Crossing. She is currently undertaking year 12 and is College Vice-Captain at Heathdale Christian College.

    Michaela has contributed greatly to the school environment & the local community. She is a fully trained volunteer at her local church where she commits up to 10 hours each week volunteering in the church café.

    Michaela leads a mentoring group for teenage girls to support them with any issues they may be experiencing.

    Michaela has been heavily involved as a school leader in fundraising for World Vision, Victorian Food Relief, the Salvation Army Food Drive & the Red Cross. Throughout 2009 and 2010 Michaela led a team of Heathdale Christian College students to raise over $26,000 for World Vision. She has trained a team of students to ensure this legacy continues in 2011 & beyond.

    Michaela has a passion for traveling to remote areas. She recently returned from a trip to the Philippines where she spent her time working to support young children living in an orphanage.

    She is now the chairperson for a new initiative called “Little Lives” which aims to raise funds to support 200 children in orphanages in the Philippines to attend school throughout 2011.

    In the future Michaela would like to become a teacher and use this qualification to spend time overseas teaching in under developed areas.
