Start Program 2008 - Term 1
We went to the START Program run by Wyndham City Council Youth Services in term 1, 2008. The START Program was a group about team work and self esteem. It was fun.
We did a lot of different activities and worked as a team to achieve our goals. Sometimes we needed to put in a big effort and that was a highlight because we didn’t always think we could do things, but we found we could. We saw that when we put stuff in, we got stuff out of it. You just have to put your mind to it.
The group has helped some of us realise that its important to us to finish something if we start it. You feel happy and good when you finish something. That idea has made a difference to doing homework and playing sport too. If you push yourself as hard as you can, it pays off in the future.
We got to know the people in the group better, and we learnt that we need trust to make things work. Some of us didn’t think we had many friends, but now we feel like we have more. Some of us realised that we don’t want to judge people by how they look or who they hang out with. Its good to feel welcome.
It was kind of like we were broken down cars on the side of the road and we got a jump start. We hope that if we keep on working to achieve our goals, and finishing things we start, that people will notice us being successful and we will feel good.
