Start Program 2007

In term 3, 2007 we attended the START Program run by Wyndham City Council Youth Services. We went to the Youth Resource Centre once a week for 6 weeks, and took part in a whole lot of different teamwork activities.
It was good to get out of school and try something different. We didn’t just play games – we had to think. Even though that was hard work and challenging, it was always fun. We learnt that we have a choice about how we do things, and that we can think about our options, and decide what works by trying out different things. That’s better than giving up when things seem hard. We also learnt how to be kinder to people.
We took part in this group because it helped us feel good, and it helped us see different sides of people. We have become friends, and we all get along better at school now. We have also found that giving things a try has been something that has been good for us outside school. Now we give things a try that we might not have done before. Giving things a try and not giving up, has helped us have less fights at home and has also helped keep the family happy.
We hope that if we keep on giving things a try rather than giving up, that we will be able to do more things, and that we might make things better for ourselves. We hope that other people will notice that we really want to do the things we set out to do, and that they’ll like us more for that.
