Young Achiever of the Year
What is it?
The Mayoral Youth Award (formerly known as the Mayoral Young Potential Award) is a grant program operated by Wyndham City Council that aims to:
- Recognise the diverse range of personal and community achievement of local young people;
- Assist young people to reach their goals;
- Reward young people for their achievements and potential; and
- Show community acknowledgement of the abilities and inherent within young people in the Wyndham community
What's changed?
The title of the award has changed and the application form has changed - questions have been reworded (plainer language) and additional questions included (to match the criteria).
Instead of being a general award there will be 3 award streams:
- sport
- community service/volunteering/leadership
- music/arts/culture
Young people will nominate a stream and their application will be considered amongst other applicants of the same stream.
Instead of being a monthly award, it will now be a quarterly award with the following closing dates for applications: 30 September, 31 December, 31 March and 30 June
Each quarter 3 awards will be given - (1 for each stream)
The age criteria has changed from 10-25 to 12-25 years.
The Assessment Committee that decides on who receives the award has been changed and will now consist of: Mayor, Youth Task Force representative, Youth Planner and Youth Services representative
What's the same?
The aim of the award stays the same - to recognise, promote and reward the positive achievements, and future potential, of young people in Wyndham.
The criteria, although reworded, remains the same
- The grant will remain $500
- Each year 12 young people will receive the award
- Successful applicants will still be automatically entered into the running for the Young Achiever of the Year Award

(one application is for young people who are nominating themselves and the other is for people who are nominating a young person on their behalf).
