Wyndham Workers with Young People Network
2012 Meeting Dates - Click here
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 31 May 2012 @ the Youth Resource Centre (86 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing) - 9.30am.
Topic - Sexual Health and Young People
The Wyndham Workers with Young People Network is an open and relatively informal network that all workers who work with young people in Wyndham are encouraged to be part of.
The network is facilitated by Wyndham City Youth Services and has two key components:
· Regular network meetings; and
· Email distribution list.
Network Meetings
There are around 7 network meetings a year open to all workers to attend. The meetings aim to provide learning, information sharing and networking opportunities for local workers.
The meetings run for 2 hours and have the following key components:
· Presentation/s from local providers or other experts on a particular topic (topic changes each meeting
and are based on topics identified by workers)
· Work-shopping – sometimes there is time for workshop sessions which aim to get more information from a range of workers about their understanding/experience of the topic. This information is used to create resources to assist workers (ie referral pathway maps), to inform Council advocacy efforts, for information sharing between workers.
· Formal information sharing – this is an opportunity for those present to share information with the other workers about new services and resources, upcoming events, current service waiting lists, staff changes, etc.
· Informal networking time - morning tea is provided and at the end of the meeting workers are invited to stay and have morning tea and catch up with other workers
Attendance at the meetings varies, but In 2010 attendance averaged at around 25 workers from a range of sectors (generalist youth work, housing, student wellbeing, employment/education/training, mental health, AOD, family services, outreach…)
Email Distribution List
Wyndham City Youth Services has a large email distribution list. Updates of relevance to workers in the youth sector in Wyndham are sent through to all workers on the email list – including notification upcoming events, new programs/services/resources, State/Fed Government announcements, etc.
All workers are invited to add their details to the list to receive emails updates.
All workers are also invited to send relevant updates to have forwarded onto the email distribution list.
