Orygen Youth Health
By far the most prevalent health issues which young people face are in the area of mental health.
We are more likely to develop mental health problems between the ages of 12 and 26 than at any other stage of life. At this age we are also more likely to develop mental health problems than other chronic illnesses.
ORYGEN Youth Health approaches this situation from three points
1. A youth specific health service for people in the western and North Western metropolitan areas of Melbourne. An Early Intervention approach is used to minimise the impact which mental illness can have on a young person's learning, growth and development into an independent member of the community
2. A comprehensive youth mental health research centre, affiliated with the University of Melbourne and with strong ties to the international youth mental health community
3. An evolved education and dissemination structure so that clinical and research findings can benefit young people with mental health issues in other areas of Victoria, across Australia and beyond.

Health-related questions are anonymously submitted to the website by young people. These questions are forwarded to relevant health professionals who have volunteered their time to answer questions. Within a week, the questions and answers are reviewed and published on the website. This process has created a database of more than 2,000 questions and answers on the website that other young people can refer to.
Young Carers
Do you help someone who has an illness, a disability, a mental health issue or a drug or alcohol problem? Then you might be a young carer and there is help and support available to you.
Many young carers tell us that caring can be a great thing to do - that they're proud of who they are and what they do and that they've built up a whole swag of useful skills. Sometimes though young carers say that caring can affect how they feel, how much time they get to spend with friends, doing schoolwork or holding down a job, and that often they need some help.
